Authors create materials. The materials get published. Libraries acquire and organize them for access. You come along and decide to use them. You incorporate some of the ideas, cite the resources, and create your own material. It's a definite cycle!

It is helpful to picture how scholars create and contribute to knowledge in a specific area. This generalized model gives you:

  • A picture of the different stages of information transmission
  • An overview of your own research path, since it will be similar
