"Some of the best research papers do no more than pose an important new problem in search of a solution."

--Booth, Colomb and Williams

The topic you choose should be interesting to you.

Your English teacher may assign a research topic. If this is the case, look for a problem whose solution makes everyone see the world in a different way.

Around 150 A.D., Ptolemy, like Artistotle and Pythagoras, put the Earth at the center of the Solar System. This theory was held to be true until Copernicus in 1473 challenged the Earth Centered theory based on his observations and research.

Needless to say not all research changes our world view. The idea we're illustrating is that that your reseach topic should be one that is interesting to you...and that you can make interesting to others.
