Becoming familiar with how to write a MLA style citation is an important skill!

This exercise will give you practice writing a MLA citation.

  1. Go to the Cabrillo College Library catalog
  2. Do a few searches using some of your own words from the Word Web exercise in Chapter 2.
  3. Find a book on your topic. Make sure the book has at least one subject heading listed.
  4. Write a MLA citation for this book. Use an underscore ( _ ) before and after bibliographic elements that are underlined. For the purposes of your response here, ignore indenting. All but the first line of your citation should be indented, but since this form on the Web doesn't accomodate indenting, don't worry about it.

Type your MLA formatted citation for your book into the box below:

  5. Look at the complete catalog record for this item.

a. Where is the book located?

b. What is its call number?

c. What is one of the subjects (i.e., Library of Congress subject headings) listed that best represents your research topic?
