Chapter 5 Reference Sources -- Using the Library Catalog to find Reference Sources on a Topic

As discussed earlier, the Library Online Catalog has a option that you can use to identify what references sources the library owns with information on your topic.

Here is an example of how it works.

  1. Go to the Library Catalog
  2. Click on WORDS
  3. In the text box, type in these words: middle east
  4. Click on Search

Look at the following results:

MIDDLE is in 562 titles.
EAST is in 456 titles.
Both "EAST" and "MIDDLE" are in 153 titles.

This search has resulted in 153 titles.

Next limit the results to reference sources by doing the following steps.

  1. Click on the .
  2. Go to WHERE Item is located and select Reference
limit search screen

3. Click on the Limit/sort items bar.
The results: A list of Reference sources in our Library Catalog on the subject
