Many print reference sources are also published online. Some are now being published solely in an online format. For the many students who enroll in distance education, being able to identify high quality sources of information online is important. Here are a few links to some of our favorite reference resource sites on the Web:

Librarians' Index to the Internet http://lii.org/search/file/reference

Cabrillo College Library Selected Internet Sources http://libwww.cabrillo.edu/depts/reference.html

University of California, Santa Barbara Online Reference Sources http://www.library.ucsb.edu/ref/online-ref.html

Exercise

1. Look over all three of the sites.

2. Select the site that interests you the most (e.g., it has sources on your topic and you like the layout).

3. Now select a reference source appropriate for your topic and look for some useful information.

4. Let us know what source you chose. Write the title of the source you selected as well as some useful information you discovered and share it with everyone by posting it on the bulletin board [click on Bulletin Board towards the top of this page] for this class.

We used Google's Advanced Search <http:www.google.com> and typed in the words "online reference sources"and we limited the search to .edu (educational domains) to find a long list of reference resources on the Web. In Chapter 8 we will discuss using search engines to find reliable Internet resources.
