eBooks are electronic versions
of printed books. Since eBooks are online, they are available
at your convenience -- anywhere, anytime. |
Using
eBooks from Cabrillo College campus computers (Aptos and Watsonville)
is seamless and easy. No passwords or usernames are necessary.
To use eBooks from home:
1. From the library
homepage, choose Fulltext Articles.
After entering your library card barcode number you may select
the "Electronic Books from NetLibrary." This takes
you to a search screen. Searching by Keyword or Full Text will
find titles that are available in the Cabrillo eBook collection.
Or,
2. When you find
an eBook through the catalog and want to read it, you need to
have your own password and username which you created WHILE
you were on campus. You need to create your password from a
campus computer (in Aptos or Watsonville). Go to the NetLibrary
Web site at http://www.netlibrary.com and click on create an
account (lower right side of the screen). After creating an
account from an on-campus computer you can use the eBooks from
anyplace, anytime.
To find an
eBook:

catalog. eBooks are integrated into the catalog. A typical catalog
search will result in lists of books with call numbers which
are available on the shelf in the library as well as eBooks
which can be read on any computer. When the book you want has
a live link within the record, you can click through to NetLibrary
and read the content of the book by choosing to browse this
book online.
Or,

Articles from the library homepage. Key in your library card
barcode number for remote authentication. Then choose Electronic
Books from NetLibrary.
Or

website at http://www.netlibrary.com and sign in with the username
and password you created from a campus workstation (either Aptos
or Watsonville). Searching by Keyword or Full Text will retrieve
those titles which are in the Cabrillo College eBook collection.
To use / read an eBook:
- After deciding
to browse an eBook online you can read through the table of
contents on the left side of the screen. You can also plunge
right in and read sections of the book, page by page, using
the arrow keys. There is a built-in American Heritage English
Language Dictionary to use for definitions, and an audio
component pronounces the word out loud.
- To see the definition,
highlight any word in the text and then click on the dictionary
tab on the left side of the screen. The text portion of the
screen (what you are reading) can be enlarged if you click on
the "Hide Tools" button at the top. When you are finished
with an eBook, please click on the "Close eBook" button
at the top.
